The Rough Draft: Our Next Project

Dear Pennies & Pens,

As you know, we’re a lifestyle production company. We produce original content and create lifestyle products. Basically, we do a little bit of everything. We publish blogs, books, and magazines; we produce music & films; and we make clothing, accessories, home goods, etc.

Currently, we publish de la Pen…All Pen Everything — an international and multicultural online lifestyle magazine. We are also the publisher of  #MakeUrPenLOUD: How To Be A Lifestyle Blogger. Additionally, last Summer we launched Summer in the South a blog series that chronicles our travel adventures in the southern region of the US.

So what’s next for The InkSpot? That’s a good question because that’s exactly what we’re trying to figure out now! We are torn between the projects we want to pursue and the fact that we have a limited budget. Truthfully, the budget issue is hurting us more than the fact that we want to create and launch multiple different products at the same time.

We have relationships with a bunch of different artists and we have already spoken with several about collaborating on projects. That said, we have the talent to produce new projects. What we don’t have is the funds to cover the production budget. Ugh, the struggle. It’s always so real…never fake.

To give you a glimpse of the production budget, let us first tell you about the products we’d like to create. We’d like to do a collection of books — a memoir (written by our CEO LoudPen), a collection of books with short stories and poems by emerging multicultural writers, a coffee table book with art by emerging international and multicultural artists, and a compilation music album with music by Hip-hop and R&B artists.

In essence, we’ll need to purchase a block of ISBN numbers for the books, pay for design work (for the interior and cover of each book), for the music album, we’ll need to cover distribution costs, pay for design work (for the album cover), and we also have to pay for marketing.

Although, we don’t know how we’ll tackle this budget issue, where there’s a will there’s a way. It’s just the name of the game when you’re a startup. That said, we’re off to figure out how we can add our ink to your page.

And there it is. #TheInkSpotLP leaving you with some ink for your page.
